Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Another month is here already? You know what that means don’t you? Random thoughts so let’s get started.

  1. May basket day. I remember it well as a young man. There really wasn’t anything as much fun as getting a cup filled with pop corn and gum drops and chasing (or being chased) as the case may be by a cute girl to make you happy that May was here. Somewhere along the line I think we have neglected this holiday. It seems to me that I need to start delivering some baskets to some of my favorite young ladies?

  2. At this point in the year it is a little early to get super excited that I’m behind in my garden work. I actually have a really nice crop of weeds and grass growing in it. Every time I think I will have time to till and plant it the rain comes and ruins my plans.

  3. Can you believe that Memorial Day is only four weeks away? Is it really time to get the camper de-winterized already? That can only mean that the State Fair isn’t too far away.

  4. The fun thing about watching the youth group at church is remembering back to my days in youth. I never was shy about making friends, but those friends I had that were also in UMYF seemed to be extra close, and to this day I can’t help but be extra cautious with marshmallows around a campfire.

  5. My oldest got her drivers permit last week and after a few pointers from Dad, she now seems to be getting the hang of driving. There is still a lot of apologizing for things as she drives, and there are still groans of “we’re gonna die” coming from her younger siblings in the back seat, but I’m enjoying being driven around.

  6. The whole driving thing got me to wondering where kids learn to drive these days with so many kids not growing up on the farm. We learned to drive in the old orange Chevy pickup while out checking cows, or learning on the tractor. I think it was another perk of farm life.

  7. If you haven’t made a trip to the State Historical Museum in a while, now is a good time to go. The new Civil War display is excellent and shouldn’t be missed. The best part is that it is free and even the kids will enjoy it a little bit.

  8. Finally this week. In between the rain showers remember there are lots of farmers in the fields. Give them a little extra time and space on the road and remember to drive carefully out there.

See you next week…Remember, we’re all in this together.
