Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

May is beef month...beef...behind beer and bacon it may be one of God's greatest gifts to mankind.  There really isn't anything as satisfying as a good steak that is cooked just right to make my tummy happy and content.  If steak isn't your thing you can grind it up and make a yummy burger, which if you think about it really started the entire fast food industry that we love today.
There are so many ways to cook beef...from shabu shabu to throwing a brisket into a smoker....but alas since my grill decided two years ago to no longer have a bottom (you never clean a grill right?) I've been stuck with no way to get that summer outdoor grill kind of meat.  So I took a trip to Mills Fleet and found one that was just right for me. Not too big and not too small and brought the box home.  Sitting in my living room on a Friday night I decided to attempt to put the entire collection of pieces and nuts and bolts together.  All the parts were in the box which was handy, however, about halfway through the process I realized the Japanese are still angry at us because of the atomic bomb.  Yes, my directions switched in the middle of the book to all sorts of wierd language that I could not understand and had to go off of the pictures and number system in the book.
Six hours later my grill was complete and after a trip to town to get a fresh LP bottle I was cooking away.  Really the only thing that would have made the whole steak for supper experience more satisfying would have been if I would have gone out and killed the cow myself...but really that's a little more blood and guts than I need and no one wants to get stuck with the tongue and trying to figure out how best to pare it with a vegetable.  So have some beef this month and remember to always kiss the cook.
See you next week...remember, we're all in this together
