Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I've seen the sun, (for a few minutes) and that always brings on random thoughts!

1. For those of you along the Dallas-Madison county line, be on the lookout for strangers digging on or near your property. I've noted one report of a local resident who found a couple digging on their property what looked to be a grave. After contacting the Madison Co. Sheriffs office they were told that a psychic had told the diggers that the body of a missing Council Bluffs woman was in northern Madison County. There's more to the story that just doesn't add up, so keep your eyes open and report anything suspicious immediately.

2. For all you single ladies out there that were still debating taking part in the "Date my Cousin Kyle" contest from this column a while back, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have it on good authority that he is now attached. I've not met the young lady yet, but look forward to welcoming her properly at a family get together over Memorial Day weekend.

3. The proposed ethanol plant near Dexter is slated to bring 80 new jobs and millions of dollars into the local economy. I've read somewhere that in less than 5 years Iowa will begin to import corn because of the demand for ethanol. This should bode well for Iowa farmers.

4. A big "Hats Off" to the Dexter Park Board. This group of volunteers has done an outstanding job moving forward with improvements to the park. I've got it on good authority that they will be looking for some volunteer help in August putting together some new equipment.

5. While I'm on the subject of the park. It is high time that something is done about the Veterans marker in the park. The names are becoming less legible with each passing year. It is important that we never forget the sacrifices of the young men listed on that memorial.

6. Many of you will be starting to plan your Memorial Day weekend activities. Be sure to include taking time to attend one of the many observances being held in your community. And while you're at it, take the kids; it's time to teach them a little about what true sacrifice is.

7. Only a couple of weeks of school left. Before you know it it'll be State Fair time again!

8. Had enough of the rain? Hopefully it will warm up enough to put out tomatoes in the garden this week. The rain we've had will help everything, especially the weeds.

9. Finally, with all the graduations and holiday gatherings that are going on, remember to drink responsibly and to use extra caution out on the roads. Let's see if we can get through the next two weeks without any rescue calls.

See you next week..Remember, we're all in this together.
