Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

It’s been a while since we’ve had any random thoughts here so let’s jump right in with both feet shall we?

  1. They tore down the old dairy sweet in Dexter last week. I remembered going there as a young man, and even a time or two as I got a little older. Unfortunately the building had really become an eyesore and even if it takes a few memories with it, it sure is nice to see the lot cleaned up.

  2. I scouted some crops up north of Boone and in the Webster City area over the weekend. They seem to be in the same condition as most of the crops down here. Rain is needed and unfortunately I don’t feel like we are going to see enough soon to make a big difference. I have also had a couple of reports out of Indiana that they are chopping corn just to get something in the bin as it will not produce this year.

  3. I heard a conversation on the Atlantic radio station at work this morning about the Earlham Softball team. It is always nice to hear what other people are saying about your program and every single one of you should be proud of this team from top to bottom.

  4. I’m not going to lie…It was just too darn hot to get out on the 4th to see the parades in Earlham and Minburn. The kids and I settled on tuna sandwiches and ice cream while sitting in front of the air conditioning and watching the fireworks while sitting in the car in the back yard.

  5. The Iowa State Fair is less than 30 days away! Mmmmm. I can already taste the corn dog!

  6. Did you hear the cicadas start up on Saturday night? You know what that means boys and girls…only six weeks to the first frost.

  7. I seem to have a rabbit problem at my house. Those little buggers have eaten every one of my beet plants. I guess if I want canned beets this winter I’m going to have to make a trip to the farmers market.

  8. Listened to an interesting preacher on the radio Sunday morning as I was making toast for breakfast. He asked what the world would be like if each one of us acted and spoke every day like Jesus was standing next to us. Something to think about isn’t folks?

  9. Just a gentle reminder for those of you who spend your day driving across railroad tracks. There will be quite a bit of track work this summer through our communities so use caution and keep a watch out for trains and work crews.

  10. Finally this week, I want to take a moment to thank every one who spends their time delivering ice, or bagging ice at the local convenience stores. I know I’ve been a bit crabby with the hot weather, but I sure was thankful when you did your best to keep the ice coolers stocked up and I appreciate it.

See you next week….remember, we’re all in this together.
