Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I know you weren’t expecting it, but another month is quickly moving to an end and before you know it Fall will be here. Let’s take a few moments to wrap ourselves up in some random thoughts.

  1. Iowa Sweet Corn. Honestly is there anything even close to being better than buttery Iowa sweet corn?

  2. I had decided to let the weeds overtake part of my garden in an attempt to hide the green beans so I wouldn’t have to pick them. It did not work. I did pick the first ripe tomato out of the garden today, which Paige who has always loved tomatoes promptly called dibs on it. It has been a great year for cucumbers so far, and I’m close to having muskmelon and watermelon to pick but we should sure use a good soaking rain soon.

  3. Construction on Dexfield Road continues although it still is more like a Level B mud road than an actual road. It certainly has been somewhat spooky this past week not having the normal traffic zooming by, but on the other side of that it sure makes one pay attention when you do hear someone coming down the road.

  4. It is hard to believe that the Iowa State Fair is only a couple of weeks away. I can almost smell the corn dogs. If you happen to be going Sunday the 10th be sure to bring the kids by “Little Hands on the Farm” in the morning and say “Hello”.

  5. I had been known for years as one of my kid’s Dad…either I was Hannah’s Dad or Max’s Dad…and suddenly this week I’ve become “that Front Porch Guy”.

  6. Congratulations to the young ladies on the Earlham Softball team on their State Championship. What a great game to cap off an amazing season.

  7. Hang in there parents…I know you are just about ready to rip the phone at work off of the wall and pack the kids up and send them in a box with no return address to some distant country, but school will start soon and they will stop picking on each other so much.

  8. It is hard to believe that the summer is almost gone. There were so many things I wanted to do this year and now it won’t be long before Football season is here and I have to start thinking about heating the house this winter. How is that for a wake up call?

  9. Finally this week, how have you been doing on being a better neighbor and friendlier to the people in your life? Just something to think about as we keep our eye on the prize.

See you next week…Remember, We’re all in this together.
