Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

Not quite a set of random thoughts, but rather things that have made me go "Hmmm..."

1. The state-hopping Presidential hopeful Gov. Vilsack commented in the Register, that he was the most qualified candidate because: "There's not a single governor here that knows more about the operation of their state's government than I do," Vilsack said. "I'm pretty confident of that." And yet he had no clue about the problems at CIETC?

2. I was pretty amazed after driving around the other day to note that there wasn't a lot of trash on the roadsides from the Ragbrai riders. I'm concerned though that after the great Lance chase this year that the event could turn into some sort of celebrity mecca. I'm sure Iowans would welcome the chance to see their favorite stars in bicycle shorts, but we'd greet them with that Iowa coolness that we are famous for.

3. Three area fire departments took part in a training burn on Sunday morning. It was somewhat sad to see an old farmstead that was once a show place go up in flames, but for some of us who haven't seen a fire in six months it was glorious.

4. I realized that I was a farm kid when I heard someone on the radio talk about a "Million dollar rain", and I knew exactly what they were talking about.

5. Heard over the police scanner...A report of kids playing with the new playground equipment in the Dexter park. Granted it was still in the boxes and not yet put together, but can you blame them?

6. Of all the cars you could drive, what would be the coolest ride ever? Yeah.. Oscar Myer Wienermobile!

7. A comment by the folks at the Nebraska State Fair. "We couldn't ever be an Iowa or Minnesota State Fair."? Well of course not!

8. Attempting to fill out my childre's school enrolment forms. I wondered if "ask Dixie or Patsy"? were proper answers?
