Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Sometimes cooking for one can be a bit on the frustrating side. Tonight I thought that some Scalloped Potatoes and biscuits sounded good. In the middle of cooking that, which in turn is enough food to feed at least six people already, I decided that I needed to make some Rice Krispy Treats. Since I’m going to spending the next two hours trying to get the spoon from out of the middle of what must be the world’s largest ball of Rice Krispy’s wrapped up in a hunk of melted marshmallows, I thought maybe we would stick with random thoughts.

  1. This weekend is Dexter’s Fall Festival. The weather sounds like it will be warm but nice so stop on out and see what is going on.

  2. How about the great weather for this year’s State Fair? I can’t remember nicer to be quite honest.

  3. Unfortunately I saw it again this year. I stood watching a set of parents getting club lambs ready for the show ring while the “exhibitor” stood there complaining about what they wanted to eat for dinner and how boring it was. Had it been my kid, we would have loaded up sheep, kid and all right then and there and been done.

  4. While we are talking about the Fair. My favorite food this year? Double Bacon Tenderloin. Mmmm…bacon.

  5. Note to self…wear shirt when making melted marshmallow. Hmm…now how am I going to get this out of the hair on my chest?

  6. I would gladly take warmer weather, which it sounds like we are going to have, for about three or four inches of a good soaking rain.

  7. As many of you know I spend my drives to and from work in prayer for those whom I meet on the highway. You would think that as much as I pray for them the people coming the other way would look a lot happier than they do.

  8. I think both kids and parents alike were excited for the start of school this year. It is important for us to remember to slow down and watch those intersections…I sure hope they educate those little minds better than what common sense they contain now.

  9. Did you catch the episode of “Diggers” last week that featured the Dexter Barrow Gang Shoot-out? Those two knuckleheads spent the entire show talking about how no one had ever recovered a bullet from the shoot-out. Correct me if I’m wrong but all the accounts I’ve read state that the days after the gun fight that the woods crawled with curious people looking and stripping clean anything related to the Barrow Gang.

  10. One other thing as I was thinking about school starting, that means that sports will be starting again soon. Just a quick reminder to be a good sport when rooting for your team and don’t forget they are kids doing their best.

  11. George the chicken has been excited to be sharing the yard with visiting ducks for the last week, although his is pretty confused and now thinks he is a duck. I’m sure this is just the first of many life shocking events for George, especially the first time he lays an egg.

  12. Finally this week, I always try to share a little knowledge with people because knowledge is power, so this week I pass on that I’ve learned that apple and pear trees are part of the rose family. Who knew?

See you next week…remember, we’re all in this together.
