Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

It’s mid-September and someone has left the refrigerator door open so let’s hang out with some pumpkin-spiced random thoughts while I dig through the closet looking for my sweatshirt.

  1. Dexter Fall Festival is coming up on September 24th. It’s much later than usual but seems to tie into the word “fall” a bit better.

  2. For those who have had to head west on old Highway 6 lately through Guthrie County, the news that the intersection in Stuart is open is good news for us all, but I’m really a bit disappointed that they didn’t go ahead and put a stop light in.

  3. Harvest will be starting soon. Remember to be careful out there on the roads and give the trucks and farm equipment a little space and a lot of patience.

  4. I’m not going to say it’s the Cubs year…but it’s the Cubs year.

  5. No one will deny that the Iowa-Iowa State game wasn’t very competitive this year. I think that Iowa States offensive line will get better at some point, but it sure can’t come fast enough.

  6. Still no eggs from the chickens. Slackers.

  7. I sat through a leadership training a few weeks ago and it was mentioned that the best thing we as leaders can do is to step aside and let new ideas and new people work their magic. Great advice and one that I wish more people took to heart.

  8. I still don’t like either presidential candidate, no matter how much one columnist in this paper is trying to sway my opinion. Is there a third choice or are we stuck?

  9. The weather is turning the right way for this time of year. It makes me happy because I know that flies will die and because of chili, hot cocoa and chicken and noodles.

  10. Finally this week…I’m sneaking up on yet another birthday. I am thinking that regardless of your age, sometimes life is harder than it should be, but it is probably our own fault that it is that way. See you next week…remember, we’re all in this together.
