Feeling a slight cold coming on so let's just hang around with some random thoughts...
1. From the "If you build it they will come" file, I think the Dexter Park Board hit a home run with the opening of the "barn" in the city park. I didn't realize how many kids lived in Dexter until I saw for my own eyes the number of them in the park playing late last week. Let's hope for a few more nice days to enjoy being a kid again.
2. Next week is National Fire Prevention Week, so take time to go over your home evacuation plan and change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
3. Had the opportunity to attend my first ISU game of the year on Saturday. What a dinger that was, and I hadn't realized how much I enjoyed tailgating with great company.
4. Harvest seems to be well underway. Just a reminder for everyone on the roads to be aware of slow moving equipment and a reminder for our farm friends to be safe.
5. Tasted the first apple crisp of the season this week. Nothing better than that my friends!
6. Maybe you have been in the same boat as me this week. Watching the news and wondering what in the world is going on across this country? The latest school murders in the quiet Amish country is enough to make my blood boil and my heart ache as I silently wonder if my own kids are safe.
7. The Dexter Methodists are nearly done with the new fellowship hall. Consecration services are planned for October 22 at 10:30 a.m. Should be a good time with a pot luck to follow.
8. The leaves are beautiful this year. Took a drive up north of Stuart the other day and as I looked out over the hills it took my breath away. Magnificent work out of mother nature this year.
9. For those keeping score, EMT-B class is going well, but those early mornings after being in class till late at night are killing me.
10. Something spurred me to think about turning another year older the other day. It wasn't so much that I was concerned about getting older, as it was what on my body was going to quit working as well this year. Let's hope it's a year free of any medical issues!
11. Anyone care to guess when the first snow will come this year?
12. And finally this week, the best piece of advice I've been given as an EMT student? "All bleeding will stop...one way or the other...eventually."
See you next week..Remember, we're all in this together.
