Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I know you’ve been looking forward to random thoughts so let’s not waste any time.

  1. I hope that everyone with children takes the time to talk to them about bullying. Share your experiences, both as a child, but also bullying that goes on in your adult life. I think that we tend to look past the bullying that happens to adults, but it can be just as destructive. The really sad part is that it doesn’t even need to happen at all.

  2. I’ve been interested in the debates so far. I’m still waiting to hear something of substance that may change the way I’m thinking of voting, but I do know that I was more than a little shocked by the strange behavior of the Vice President the other night. Regardless of views, we should all be respectful of each other. Shouldn’t we?

  3. Harvest has been going well and for many it is all over. I can’t remember a year when we have been done this early. It has been a long stretch and I don’t know that I have ever been as thankful for the rain as I was this past weekend.

  4. Just in case you are wondering Christmas is a little over two months away.

  5. How do you tell someone you miss them, when you can’t speak to them any more?

  6. A big shout out to my friends online and at the Madison County courthouse who take the time to read my column each week. With my crazy schedule lately, I have been really lax about returning emails, but know that I appreciate all the feedback!

  7. If you happen to be headed west any time soon, be careful driving through Stuart. They have a new police vehicle, which looks like one of those black SUV’s that you see on those urban assault movies.

  8. Toe cramp!

  9. I was in Wal Mart the other night looking for Pyrex mixing bowls. I searched and searched but couldn’t find them. Adding them to my Santa list this year.

  10. For many of us, friendships are extremely important. In my own life I am fortunate to have never met a stranger, however I find my circle of close friends getting smaller and smaller all the time. For those of you with friends far away, take the time to let them know you care. You may never know just what it means to them.

  11. Melody Makers are still without a CD recording deal. This is a travesty.

  12. I’ve inherited some barn kitties and they greet me every morning and night. I’m not neglecting feeding them, but I will sure like them more when they start killing mice.

  13. The corn furnace is broken. Waiting for a part to come all the way from Ohio. Good thing it hasn’t been too cold out.

  14. If you haven’t marked your calendar yet, the Dexter Methodist Church will celebrate 150 years on October 28th. Special time for morning service will be 10 a.m. and you are all welcome to come join us. Word has it that this columnist might even be singing that morning.

  15. Finally this week, I got to attend a youth football game at the new Earlham field on Saturday night. I’m very impressed with the facility and each of you in town should be as well.

See you next week….remember, we’re all in this together.
