Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I’m pretty backwards today as I’ve been bouncing between working nights and working days and I’ll be quite honest I really don’t have the foggiest idea what day or time it really is. I’m ready to crawl back into bed so this will be extremely brief this week.

One of the problems with working nights is trying to find things to occupy yourself with in order to stay awake until the next time you need to record monitor readings, which leads me to watching a ton of videos on YouTube. I stumbled across a series of videos the other night that really made me think.

In the videos people who were deaf had ocular implants and were hearing sounds for the first time ever. It was fascinating to watch and listen to them talk about the background noises that they finally heard for the first time. These would be the same noises, like the hum that florescent lighting gives off that you and I take for granted and ignore every day. It made me wonder if I had never heard sound before what was the first sound I would want to hear. Would it be of a relative, or maybe the sound of a bird singing or the wind through the leaves of a tree in summer? It’s interesting to think about and maybe like me it will occupy your thoughts for a while. See you next week…remember, we’re all in this together.
