Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Although its still two weeks away, I think I’ll get ahead of the game this week and start on my Thanksgiving list. Thanksgiving list you ask? Why yes, that list of all the things I’m thankful for. The way I see it, if I do it now and then carry it in my pocket I can be prepared when someone asks me before the meal what I’m thankful for….so let’s get it started.

  1. I’m thankful for pie. Not only are some of my best family memories surrounded by pie, I’m thankful for it because there are days when you’re really not in the mood for a piece of cake, but a piece of pie is just right.

  2. I’m thankful for my kids. We all need remembered a few times that we are thankful for the people around us. Oh sure, there are days when I want to take them by the necks and bang their heads together in some All Star Wrestling move, but I’m thankful most of the time, especially when they come bearing hugs.

  3. I’m thankful for the State Fair. There really isn’t anything like it, and I’m going to start a petition to change the calendar year so that the new year starts on the first day of the Fair, because that’s really how I track my year…How many days since the Fair and how many until the next one.

  4. I’m thankful for my hometown. How nice it is to travel and visit new places, but there is something comforting about having a place to call home. Now before any of you gets a big head, there’s more than enough things I dislike about it too, but this is a thankful list remember?

  5. I’m thankful for heartbreak. It never is easy to have your heart broken, but it makes you that much more thankful when someone comes to fill it again. It also reminds me how very lucky people who know love are. Don’t take it for granted if you do.

  6. I’m thankful for home improvement projects. Don’t ask me why, but I’m just going to go with it for now.

  7. I’m thankful for ham balls. We all know how sad the children would be without them.

  8. I’m thankful for friends who are far away. I’m not sure that they work harder than friends who are closer, but when they do nice things for you, you know they put a little extra effort into it.

  9. I’m thankful for dreams, hope and faith. Without any of these three we no longer are living life. We all need something to look forward to, to wish upon and to believe in.

  10. Finally this week, I’m thankful for all of you. Near or far, bringing me a piece of pie or not. All of you who take the time to read, to comment and to spend a few minutes with me each week. I hope that all of you find thankfulness this season and when dinner is over and you’re sitting down with a piece of pie…add another scoop of whip cream…you deserve it!

See you next week…remember, we’re all in this together.
