Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Usually any home improvement project tends to take me a while to accomplish. And with the installation of the corn furnace this one has not been any exception. However, unlike the bathroom that took me nearly three years the furnace is in and I've been burning corn/pellets since Saturday and I can only say that it sure is nice living in a warm house again.

I'm amazed how the whole system works..from the little pellets moving from the hopper along two augers into the burn pot from the bottom upwards. It is simply amazing! And the best part? No more LP bills!

In honor of the fact my fingers are now warm enough to be able to type it's time for a little annual tradition that I like to call my Thanksgiving Resolutions... I know, it seems a little against the grain, but would you expect anything less from me? I started this trend a few years back. Giving myself extra time to work on things I'd like to accomplish and seeing as how most of us have thrown our New Year's resolutions out the windows by mid March, I figure this gives me an extra few weeks to make some of them into habits. So let's get started shall we?

  1. I resolve to never again be afraid of asking for help when I need it.
  2. I resolve to eat meat and vegetables at the same meal.
  3. I resolve not to think of AE party dip as a food group any more.
  4. I resolve to check the furnace daily.
  5. I resolve to spend more time sitting in front of the computer doing constructive things instead of playing Sim City.
  6. I resolve to be a little less worried about what other people think of me, and a little more worried about what I think of myself.
  7. I resolve to go camping with my kids twice as much as I did this year.
  8. I resolve to not think I'm having a heart attack when I really am just all jacked up on Mt. Dew.
  9. I resolve to try to stay out of things that aren't my business.
  10. I resolve to eat more meatloaf and coconut cream pie. I resolve to be more pleasant at work...even when I don't want to be.
  11. I resolve to let things from the past stay there, and instead of harping on them and holding grudges to move on.
  12. I resolve to try to remember that none of us is perfect and no one really expects us to be. I resolve to smile more, sleep longer and talk with a more gentle and kind tone.
  13. I resolve to make it to Chicago to catch a Cubs game.
  14. I resolve not to stand in the middle of the highway facing oncoming traffic when they don't make it to the World Series.
  15. I resolve to never wear white socks with dress shoes.
  16. I resolve every month to take one day just to do something fun.
  17. I resolve to continue to reconnect with my siblings, even if I still think they are nuttier than a bag of walnuts sometimes.
  18. Finally, I resolve to be here at the computer writing every week as long as I think I've got something to say and you, the kind and gentle reader will still read it.

See you next week...remember, we're all in this together.
