Consider this quote from Abe Lincoln

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Nothing earth shattering this week folks. It’s crunch week. In the middle of exams and testing and Christmas shopping and all of a hundred other things that seems to jump up and grab hold of my day. So how about a few random thoughts?

  1. Ethanol plants seem to be sprouting up everywhere. If I’ve read the reports right it should increase the price of corn in the area and provide tax dollars to our area as well. Sounds like a win-win to me, as long as they remember the first rule and that is to be a good neighbor.
  2. I’ve decided to form my own contest this year. I’ve decided to judge the best Christmas cookie. Anyone with a tasty entry can contact me…I’ll even come to your house to eat it. What’s that? What could you win? Other than bragging rights in this column…um…well, that’s pretty much it.
  3. Someone remind me after Christmas that I need to unhook the cable attached to the wall holding the Christmas tree up right before I try to strong arm it out the door.
  4. The weather pundits are saying that there won’t be a white Christmas this year. However you can plan on a white February and March if my knees are correct.
  5. A tid-bit from class…Adults loose 1% of body function each year past age 30. Outstanding! And here this whole time I thought I was getting better. Note to self…97% of your body function wants to take a nap!
  6. Has anyone got an idea of who has bagged the biggest buck in the area this year?
  7. With a new Casey’s store opening in Earlham soon, will any of us miss the crazy way you had to angle a pick up next to the pumps when pulling a stock trailer?
  8. Think you know history? Can you tell me how Winear got it’s name? Extra points for you if you know where it is, and what is important about it.
  9. The Dexter Methodists have gift wrapping services available. No word on the use of the Sunday comics and duct tape.
  10. Some days a hot cup of chocolate and some Christmas lights seem to be just perfect. Thanks to everyone who has decorated to give me some Christmas cheer.

See you next week…Remember, we’re all in this together.
